The Mantel Story
Owner, Karen McClelland, founded MANTEL to celebrate artists, their work and the creative process. After twelve years of teaching art and helping students grow as ceramicists, Karen brings an eye for design and craftsmanship to curating a collection of homewares and lifestyle products. The endeavor began a family affair, with Karen's husband David completing much of the interior build-out and playing an instrumental role in adding a vintage vibe. Their then 9-year-old son Lewis brainstormed the name MANTEL.
Located in a historical building that was recently refurbished, MANTEL reflects the grit and glam of their Portland, Oregon neighborhood, Kenton, where the family has lived since 2005. The store's eclectic mix of products ranges from modern ceramics, jewelry, and glass, while keeping a focus on local makers.
